Did Raj Kapoor really visit newborn Karisma Kapoor only because of her blue eyes?
The legendary actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, known for his deep affection for his children and grandchildren, had a unique condition surrounding the birth of his granddaughter, Karisma Kapoor.
This intriguing detail was shared by Karisma's mother, Babita, in the book Raj Kapoor: The One and Only Showman written by his daughter Ritu Nanda.
Before Karisma was born in 1974, Raj Kapoor reportedly insisted that he would only visit the hospital if the newborn had blue eyes.
Babita recalled the moment “I remember the day Lolo was born, the entire family was with me by my side at Breach Candy Hospital, except my father-in-law.
He said that he would come to the hospital only if the newborn had blue eyes. Thank the lord that Lolo had deep blue eyes, like my father-in-law,” she said.
The book also highlights Karisma’s childhood dreams of becoming an actress. Ritu Nanda reminisces how young Karisma would sit on Raj's lap, sharing her aspirations.
Raj not only encouraged her but also predicted her rise to stardom.
In the book Karisma recalls discussing her acting ambitions with her grandfather. “As a teenager, I always said I want to work in movies, I wanted to be an actor.
I remember my grandfather telling me, ‘To be an actor is not a bed of roses! If you want to be an actor, walk on the thorns and work on the soil to make the roses grow and then become an actor. You have to aim to always be the best. You should always have that ambition to be an achiever,’” she recalled.
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma's sister, fondly recalled their grandfather's soft spot for Karisma, largely due to her captivating blue eyes. She humorously noted that while she received one mango in summer from Raj, Karisma would receive two, underscoring his clear favoritism.
