From multiple shooters to Glock switches: What’s known about the Birmingham shooting

Police suspect multiple gunmen used 'Glock switches' in attack that killed four people and wounded around 20 others.

A mass shooting occurred late Saturday night in Birmingham’s Five Points South district, an area known for its vibrant nightlife. The incident left four people dead and dozens injured.

Multiple Shooters Open Fire
Birmingham police confirmed that multiple shooters opened fire on a group of people outside Hush, a hookah and cigar lounge on Magnolia Avenue. The shooting took place shortly after 11 p.m.

Victims and Casualties
Two men and one woman were found dead at the scene, and a fourth victim died at the hospital. At least four others have life-threatening injuries, with dozens more suffering from various gunshot wounds.

Witness Describes Chaotic Scene
Dajon Singleton, who arrived as the shooting was ending, described the scene as terrifying. "I walked up when it was just ending, because everybody was screaming, there were people crying," he said.

What types of weapons were used?
Police believe Glock switches, illegal devices that convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic ones, were used in the attack. These 'auto-kits' have been the focus of recent federal crackdowns in the Birmingham area.

Were any arrests made?
Investigators are determining whether the shooters approached on foot or fired from a vehicle. No arrests have been made, and police are appealing to the public and local businesses for surveillance footage and information.

Motive of attack?

The motive for Alabama shooting remains unclear as investigation continues. "We will do everything we possibly can to make sure we uncover, identify and hunt down whoever is responsible for preying on our people this morning," Birmingham Officer Truman Fitzgerald told local chanel WBMA.

Hospital Treating Victims
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital confirmed that it is treating 10 victims from the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to identify the suspects and establish a motive.
