A man with a heart of gold
German philosopher Immanuel Kant once said, "The one who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in dealings with human beings. We can judge the heart of a person who treats animals."
Those showing compassion for animals has a heart of gold. Faisal, a resident of Karachi, is one such soul, who has taken it upon himself to feed stray animals and birds.
Faisal, a resident of the Madrassah Society, Scheme 33, collects leftover food from wedding halls and feed it to stray dogs, cats, and other animals. Faisal, who is a pet food supplier by profession, volunteers to care for stray dogs and cats.
Inspired by his charitable efforts, several local residents have also joined his mission. They contribute cooked or raw meat, chicken, and other food items to support his cause. His work has also expanded to rescuing injured animals, including those hit by cars, transporting them to a shelter for treatment.
While speaking to The Express Tribune, Faisal said that his journey to help stray animals began with a simple thought: "While humans can express their hunger, animals cannot." This realisation ignited his sense of empathy and motivated him to take action.
Initially, Faisal collected food scraps from chicken and beef shops to feed the strays. Over time, he expanded his efforts to include leftover food from wedding halls.
Faisal relies on his motorcycle for distribution, and some donors even supply high-quality imported pet food. Students have also joined the cause, using their pocket money to buy food for the animals.
Though he can't cover every area of Karachi, he hopes his initiative will inspire others to follow suit.
Apart from feeding strays, Faisal provides medical assistance. He has publicised his mobile number, encouraging people to contact him if they encounter injured or ailing animals. Faisal transports these animals to a local shelter on his motorcycle, where they receive the medical care they need.
