Public prosecutors' strike continues on third day

Due to the strike, the prosecution, police, and CTD's investigation process and cases have come to a complete halt

PESHAWAR:

The protest strike of the public prosecutors across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has entered third day on Saturday, badly impacting judicial proceedings.

Due to the strike, the prosecution, police, and CTD's investigation process and cases have come to a complete halt, and the review of cases has also stopped, with no progress on new cases.

The prosecutors' strike has halted trials in old cases as well, causing severe difficulties for prisoners and increasing the burden on jails.

The President Prosecution Officers Welfare Association, Sangeen Shah, General Secretary Javed Mehmood, Joint Secretary Waheed Asim, and Press Secretary Zulfiqar Ali visited the protest camps to encourage the prosecutors.

Due to the strike, hearings for bail applications of accused individuals in minor cases didn't take place, resulting in thousands of offenders remaining in prisons.

On the other hand, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Prosecution Officers Welfare Association has stated that the strike will continue until their demands are accepted.

It may be recalled that on Thursday the Association announced an indefinite boycott of court proceedings in protest against the lack of approval for an independent and autonomous prosecution department and the office of the Prosecutor General.
