In the global film industry, the success of a movie is not judged by its cast or storyline but rather by its box office earnings. The more a film earns, the bigger a hit it is considered to be.

In the past, if a movie made it to the 100 crore club, it was given the title of a hit film, but that is no longer the case today.

Various media reports claim that in the 90s, Salman Khan's film Hum Aapke Hain Koun? had the highest earnings and was the first Bollywood film to enter the 100-Crore club, but these claims are false.

According to Indian media, the actor who delivered Bollywood's first 100-crore club film was neither Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, nor Amitabh Bachchan, but the legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty in the 80s.

Reports state that Mithun Chakraborty's film Disco Dancer, released in 1982, was the first Bollywood movie enter the club.

Media reports also revealed that Disco Dancer made modest earning at the time of its initial release, but when the film was re-released in the Soviet Union in 1984, it's revnue spike up.

After this earning was added Disco Dancer made it to the 100 crore club.
