Sean "Diddy" Combs, 54, is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) after being denied bail twice, sources confirmed to PEOPLE. He has been placed on suicide watch as a preventative measure, though it is unclear if Combs is suicidal. “His mental state is unclear,” one source revealed, adding that he is still in shock following his arrest.

Combs was arrested on the night of September 16 at a Manhattan hotel, and the indictment, unsealed the next day, revealed charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, requested a transfer to a prison in Essex County, New Jersey, but the Bureau of Prisons will make the final decision.

MDC, which houses over 1,600 inmates, has been criticized for its dangerous and understaffed conditions. In their motion to request bail, Combs' legal team highlighted that the facility is "not fit for pre-trial detention," citing a high rate of suicides and a recent inmate murder. Combs’ next hearing is scheduled for September 24.
