Footage emerges of Carly Gregg fatally shooting her mother
Carly Gregg, a 15-year-old Mississippi girl, has been charged with the murder of her mother, Ashley Smylie, in a disturbing incident caught on video.
The footage shows Gregg, dressed in a Nirvana shirt, lurking around her house with a .357 Magnum handgun hidden behind her back. Moments later, gunfire erupts, followed by Smylie’s screams as she is fatally shot.
After the shooting, Gregg reportedly used her mother’s phone to lure her stepfather, Heath, to the house. Upon his arrival, Gregg allegedly shot him in the shoulder during a struggle for the gun. Heath managed to disarm her, but Gregg fled the scene and was later arrested.
The chilling footage from the March 19 incident was played in a Rankin County courtroom on Tuesday during Gregg's murder trial. While prosecutors initially offered her a plea deal, Gregg refused and is now pursuing an insanity defense. The trial has attracted widespread national attention.
