Eva Mendes opens up about hesitancy to return to acting after a decade-long break

Eva Mendes reflects on stepping away from acting, citing her work with Ryan Gosling and focus on motherhood

Eva Mendes has recently admitted she’s uncertain about returning to acting. In an interview on Good Morning America on September 17, the Hitch star shared, “I don’t know [when I'll return]. If there’s an interesting role, maybe, but I left it 10 years ago.”

Mendes, who shares two daughters with her partner of 13 years, Ryan Gosling, explained that her decision to step back from Hollywood felt right after working on a project with Gosling. “I was like, ‘I just worked with Ryan Gosling, who is the best.’ It felt like a perfect moment to step away,” she said.

Eva, now 50, has since focused on other business ventures and recently released a children's book, Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries. Reflecting on motherhood earlier this year, she explained that her decision to focus on her children was an easy one. “Being a full-time mom was a no-brainer. Acting takes you away from home, and I wanted to be with my kids,” Mendes shared on Today.
