‘Short-term kidnapping’: Men in police uniform extort Rs500,000 in Karachi

Police are investigating the case and working to identify the suspects through CCTV footage

KARACHI:

Two men dressed in police uniforms kidnapped a citizen in Korangi’s Mehran Town, Karachi, and extorted Rs500,000 in ransom, according to Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The SSP confirmed that a case has been registered against the abductors. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing two individuals in police uniforms, along with another suspect in civilian clothes armed with a weapon.

The victim, Nadeem, shared his ordeal, stating, "As soon as I was kidnapped, they blindfolded me and drove me around in their vehicle. They initially demanded Rs1 million."

Nadeem added, "When I couldn't meet their demand, they threatened to kill me and my children. Eventually, we settled on Rs500,000."

According to the victim's statement, his family was summoned to deliver the ransom at a petrol station near Natha Khan Bridge.

"I was held hostage for four hours," said Nadeem. "After receiving the money, they released me a short distance from Natha Khan Bridge."

Police are investigating the case and working to identify the suspects.
