Chappell Roan compares fame to an ‘abusive ex-husband,’ shares advice from Lorde, Sabrina Carpenter
Chappell Roan, known for her recent rise to stardom, has drawn parallels between fame and a toxic relationship.
In a new interview with The Face published on Monday (Sept. 16), the 26-year-old singer expressed her feelings on the challenges that come with fame. Roan compared the attention she receives to the behavior of an "abusive ex-husband."
She explained, “The vibe of this – stalking, talking s–t online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public – is the vibe of an abusive ex-husband. That’s what it feels like. I didn’t know it would feel this bad.”
Roan also revealed how Lorde, her fellow pop star, provided support during a difficult moment. After being harassed by a man at the airport for refusing to sign posters, Roan reached out to Lorde for advice.
“She sent me a list of things I should do [in that situation],” Roan explained, noting that Lorde offered eight tips based on her own experiences. “And she went through f–king hell. She was a baby!” Roan shared.
The rising artist has received support from several other female musicians, including Lady Gaga, Charli XCX, and Katy Perry. Roan also mentioned how she and Sabrina Carpenter have been sharing their experiences of coping with newfound fame. “Sabrina [Carpenter] even texted me: ‘Hey, I feel crazy. I know you feel crazy.’”
Recently, Roan has been vocal about setting boundaries with her fans, addressing "predatory behavior" in social media posts and speaking out at events like the VMAs, where she won Best New Artist.
