KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court heard a petition filed against the sale and lease of football ground land and sought a report from the chief secretary.

The petitioner's counsel, Salman Sabir Advocate, submitted that the Garden West Tharoo Lane Football Ground has been dedicated to the sports activities since 1947, but the construction is being carried out at the said ground. The builder claims that he has bought the land, while welfare plots cannot be used for any other purpose. The lease for the sale and purchase of the plot should be canceled and the football ground be restored. Ismailia Platinum Cooperative Housing Society should also be made party in the case.

The court ordered that a committee of relevant officers should be formed to find out how the playground was sold. The court accepted the plea of making the Ismailia Platinum Cooperative Housing Society a party in the case and sought a report from the chief secretary and the Board of Revenue within two weeks regarding the status of the land.
