Surge in mugging targeting women on streets of Karachi

Karachi's District Central police yet to make any progress in tracking down suspects involved in recent crimes

KARACHI:

District Central is in the grip of a troubling surge in street robberies targeting women walking alone.

In Sharifabad, a woman was robbed in broad daylight by a motorcycle-riding thief and the incident was caught on a CCTV camera.

The armed robber snatched the jewelry, mobile phone, and other belongings of the woman wearing hijab.

In another incident, a woman was robbed on her doorstep in daylight Azizabad, Block 2. CCTV footage shows the robber initially walking past the woman before returning to commit the crime.

The mugger, who was wearing a helmet to hide his identity, held the woman at gunpoint before snatching her possessions. Similar incidents have been reported near Sir Syed and North Nazimabad's Five Star Chowrangi.

Despite the increasing number of these brazen street crimes, District Central police have yet to make any progress in tracking down the suspects involved.
