A partial lunar eclipse will be visible across parts of Pakistan on Wednesday, September 18, though it will be brief, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The event will offer a short window for skywatchers in the country.

The PMD stated that the eclipse will begin at 5:41am local time, with the partial phase starting at 7:13am. However, the moon will be below the horizon during much of the eclipse, limiting visibility across Pakistan.

The eclipse will reach its peak at 7:44am, and the shadow will start to recede by 8:16am. The event will conclude at 9:47am, but observers in Pakistan will only be able to catch a glimpse during the partial phase.

The PMD added that the eclipse will be visible in large parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, as well as the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Oceans, the Arctic, and Antarctica.

Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes between the sun and the moon, casting its shadow onto the lunar surface. This partial eclipse, though not as dramatic as a total eclipse, will cover only 3.5% of the moon at its peak.

No special equipment is required to observe the eclipse—just a clear view of the sky and perhaps a strong cup of coffee to enjoy the celestial event in the early hours of the morning.
