Rachel Vindman criticized for ‘disgusting’ remarks downplaying Trump second assassination attempt

Rachel Vindman, wife of Alexander Vindman, a key witness in the 2019 impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, faced criticism on Sunday after downplaying what authorities described as a second assassination attempt on Trump. 

The incident occurred at Trump’s golf resort in Florida, where the Secret Service reportedly opened fire on a gunman. The FBI is investigating the event, which they have described as an attempted assassination.

Trump quickly addressed the situation, assuring supporters of his safety. "FEAR NOT! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God!" he wrote in a statement on his fundraising website. He also reaffirmed his commitment to his supporters, stating, "There are people in this world who will do whatever it takes to stop us. I will not stop fighting for you. I will Never Surrender." He concluded his message by emphasizing unity as key to making America great again.

Rachel Vindman sparked controversy with her post on X, saying, “No ears were harmed. Carry on with your Sunday afternoon.” 

GOP strategist Chris LaCivita expressed outrage, urging Alexander Vindman—mistakenly thinking he was running for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District seat—to condemn his wife's remarks. The seat is actually being contested by Eugene Vindman, Alexander’s brother.

In response, Alexander Vindman condemned LaCivita and Trump’s supporters, accusing them of inciting violence. Eugene Vindman, in his own statement, expressed gratitude for law enforcement's swift actions.

Despite the backlash, Rachel Vindman remained firm in her stance, accusing Trump of creating political tensions. Her comments drew further criticism from conservatives, including Hugh Hewitt and Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), who accused her of trivializing violence. The incident highlights the ongoing debate over political rhetoric and violence, a central theme in the Trump era.
