KARACHI:

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) expresses its strongest condemnation of the recent incident of sexual assault on a lady polio worker in Jacobabad, Sindh. The horrifying attack on a frontline healthcare worker who was carrying out her duty to protect children from a debilitating disease is not only a heinous crime but also an attack on the entire healthcare system.

The safety and security of healthcare workers, especially those involved in critical immunisation campaigns, such as polio eradication, must be ensured at all costs. The PMA demands that the Government of Sindh take immediate and concrete steps to provide foolproof security for all polio teams operating in the province. It is imperative that those responsible for this despicable act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice to send a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated. The PMA stands in solidarity with the victim of this horrific incident and her family during this difficult time.
