Mohammad Amir surpasses Bhuvneshwar Kumar's tally of T20 maidens
Left-arm Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir has broken the record for the most maidens bowled by a pacer in Twenty20 internationals (T20s).
Representing the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Amir achieved this milestone during his team's fixture against the Barbados Royals.
In the match held on Thursday, Amir bowled the first over of the innings as the Falcons sought to defend a total of 177 runs.
Displaying exceptional skill and precision, Amir delivered a maiden over to hard-hitting batter Rakheem Cornwall, restricting him to a leg-bye off the last delivery.
This over contributed to Amir’s tally of 25 maidens in T20 cricket, surpassing the previous record held by India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had 24 maidens.
Amir’s performance further solidified his place among the top bowlers in the T20 format.
His achievement places him third on the overall list of most maidens in T20s, behind Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, who has 26 maidens, and West Indies' Sunil Narine, who tops the list with 30 maidens.
This record adds to Amir’s impressive career, which has seen him break several significant T20 milestones.
Earlier this year, fellow Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi also made headlines by surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar's long-standing record for the most first-over wickets in T20s.
Afridi achieved this milestone during the first T20I of the series between Pakistan and New Zealand.
