Jane’s Addiction faced an onstage altercation during their recent Boston concert, with tensions between frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro escalating into a physical confrontation.

The incident, which occurred mid-performance, was later addressed by Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau, in an Instagram statement on September 14.

In her post, Lau acknowledged the long-standing tensions within the band, describing them as part of the “magic that made the band so dynamic.” However, during the Boston show, these tensions boiled over, leading to Farrell "getting up in Dave’s face and body checking him." Lau attributed her husband’s actions to health issues, including tinnitus and a sore throat, exacerbated by the loud stage volume. Farrell reportedly felt his voice was being drowned out, leading to mounting frustration.

“When the audience in the first row started complaining to Perry, cussing at him that the band was too loud and they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost it,” Lau explained.

As the band began playing “Ocean Size,” Farrell struggled with the sound mix and resorted to screaming in an effort to be heard. Lau also alleged that bassist Eric Avery escalated the situation by putting Farrell in a headlock and punching him in the stomach.

Video footage captured by fans shows Farrell shoving Navarro and attempting to throw a punch before crew members and Avery intervened to break up the fight. The show was cut short after 11 songs, according to Setlist.fm. NME has reached out to the band’s representatives for comment.
