In a closely contested group stage match of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, India secured a 2-1 victory over their arch-rivals Pakistan.

This defeat marked Pakistan’s first loss of the tournament, while it was India's fifth consecutive win in the six-team round-robin competition.

India’s Harmanpreet Singh was the standout performer, scoring both goals for his side. Pakistan’s sole goal came early in the first quarter, scored by Ahmed Nadeem.

Despite having several key opportunities, the Green Shirts failed to capitalize, allowing India to maintain their edge.

Both teams have already secured their spots in the semi-finals, and there is a strong possibility they could face off again in the final.

Pakistan has recorded two wins and two draws in the tournament so far, while India has won all four of their matches. The defeat ended Pakistan’s unbeaten streak in the competition.

A final hooter went off and India beat their archrivals Pakistan 2-1.

A brace from India captain Harmanpreet Singh seals a fifth straight win for the Paris Olympic bronze medallists at this year’s tournament.

Ahmad Nadeem scored the only goal for Pakistan, who suffer their first defeat of the tournament, having bagged two wins and two draws in their previous matches.

Who are in the semifinals?

India, Pakistan and South Korea have booked their spots in the semifinals. The fourth and final berth will be decided after the Japan vs China match later on Saturday.

India are table-toppers with 15 points, Pakistan are second with eight points and South Korea are third with six points.

Malaysia is fourth with five points, China is second bottom with three points and Japan are bottom with one point.

China needs to beat Japan to leapfrog Malaysia and make it to the semifinals.
