'Unjust' decision: Moin Khan on Shaheen Afridi’s removal as T20 captain after one series

Former Pakistan captain Moin Khan has voiced his concerns over the decision to remove Shaheen Afridi as T20 captain after just one series.

Moin, a member of the 1992 World Cup-winning team, said the move was "unfair" and that Afridi should have been given more time to prove his leadership.

"Removing Shaheen Afridi based on one T20 series is unjust," Moin stated.

"He has the ability to lead the team and was the best choice for T20 captaincy. For ODIs, someone else could have been considered, but dismissing him after one series isn't right. How can you expect good performance from him after such treatment?"

Moin also addressed the broader issue of having one captain for all formats.

"A single captain for all three formats can work, but that player needs to perform consistently across all formats," he added.

"The board should give the chosen captain enough time to settle into the role."

Speculation has risen that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan may be handed the captaincy for white-ball cricket, while Test captain Shan Masood is also being considered for further leadership duties.

Shaheen’s leadership came under criticism following Pakistan's historic loss to Bangladesh in the recent home series, where Pakistan lost both the Test match and the series for the first time on home soil against Bangladesh.

Earlier, Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood refuted rumours of a dressing room disagreement with fast bowler Shaheen Afridi following the team's loss to Bangladesh in the first Test.

Masood addressed the speculation, clarifying that no confrontation occurred between him and Shaheen.

He explained that a viral video showing Afridi removing Masood's hand from his shoulder was misinterpreted.

Masood stated that Afridi was experiencing shoulder pain at the time, and he had placed his hand there to offer support, which was misconstrued.

Previously, reports suggested that following Pakistan's historic 10-wicket defeat to Bangladesh, there was tension between Masood and Afridi regarding the performance of the fast bowlers.
