Ali Sajjad Taj, a Pakistani-American and current Mayor Pro Tem of Artesia, has officially announced his candidacy for California’s 67th State Assembly District in the upcoming 2026 election.

Sajjad, a member of the Democratic Party, has been endorsed by several prominent California leaders, including current Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, who has held the seat for three terms.

In his statement, Sajjad expressed his gratitude for the widespread support, saying, "I am honored to receive the support of so many trusted leaders throughout our district.

"Together, we will build a brighter future for our communities, focusing on the issues that matter most—education, public safety, affordable housing, and economic growth."

Sajjad's campaign has already gained momentum, with endorsements from State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco, Senator Bob Archuleta, and Senator Josh Newman, among others.

His experience in public service and leadership roles, including serving as President of the League of California Cities, has made him a prominent figure in California's political landscape.

Endorsing his candidacy, Assemblywoman Quirk-Silva highlighted his commitment to the district, saying, "Ali Sajjad Taj is a leader who truly understands the needs of our community and has the experience to deliver on his promises. I have no doubt that he will be an outstanding representative for District 67."

Running on a platform focused on improving education, enhancing public safety, affordable housing, and fostering economic growth, Sajjad aims to bring his "One Voice, One Community, One Future" philosophy to Sacramento.

His campaign slogan reflects his commitment to ensuring that "every voice counts" in the district's future development.

Having served three terms as Artesia's mayor and actively working on initiatives to improve public safety and homelessness issues, Sajjad is looking to leverage his extensive experience to serve on a broader scale.

The election will take place in 2026, where Sajjad hopes to succeed Quirk-Silva and continue her legacy of service in District 67.
