Police say victim's accomplices opened fire, killing wanted accused

ISLAMABAD:

For the second time in a week, an accused in police custody was killed by accomplices in a firing incident in the federal capital.

According to sources, the latest incident involved Hameedullah Afghani, a dangerous suspect with a criminal record, including murder and robbery, who was shot dead by his accomplice.

The police reported that the incident occurred in the Japan Road area, under the jurisdiction of Karpa police station. Hameedullah was being escorted by a police team for recovery purposes when four armed accomplices on two motorcycles opened fire. The attack happened as Hameedullah was being taken out of the vehicle.

Although two police officers came under fire, they were unharmed due to precautionary measures.

The suspect was critically injured during the exchange and was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

He was on a four-day physical remand with Hamak police station and was wanted in several cases involving murder, robbery, theft, and illegal weapons across various police stations in Islamabad.

The accomplices who opened fire managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
