Comedian, actor, and writer Vir Das has made history by becoming the first Indian to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards, scheduled to take place on November 25, 2024, in New York City. Known for his razor-sharp wit and global appeal, Das continues to break barriers and represent Indian talent on international platforms.

Expressing his enthusiasm on Instagram, Das wrote, "Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host. I can't wait to host the Emmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!" His post was met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow comedians, celebrating the achievement as a win for Indian entertainment on the global stage.

Das has previously been nominated for an Emmy in 2021 for his special Vir Das: For India and won in 2023 for his Netflix special Landing. Currently on his international Mind Fool tour, Das continues to break boundaries with his comedy, resonating with audiences worldwide.

Beyond his stand-up, the comedian has an impressive portfolio in television and film. He has created, produced, and starred in several series, including ABC's Whiskey Cavalier and Netflix's Hasmukh. He also made an appearance in Judd Apatow's The Bubble and is developing a single-camera comedy with CBS Studios and Andy Samberg. Adding to his creative endeavours, Das leads India's comedy-rock band, Alien Chutney.

In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Das expressed his joy at hosting the event: "I am so happy to be hosting the International Emmys. It's a massive prestigious night to uphold makers from across a world that I believe is making its best content. I know first-hand how it can be life-changing."

Bruce L Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, echoed the excitement, stating, "We're delighted to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy Host to his impressive list of talents. With his unique humour and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of Gala hosts over the years who fit in perfectly with our global audience."
