During the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, Katy Perry's acceptance speech for the Video Vanguard Award included a memorable moment that caught Taylor Swift's attention.

On September 11, Perry, 39, remarked that the LGBTQ+ community had taught her "that you can be both kind and c---." The comment quickly gained traction on social media when a video showed Swift, 34, smiling and turning to her friend Jack Antonoff, seated next to her. Antonoff, 40, pointed at Swift, who nodded in agreement.

Swift was also seen energetically participating in Perry's performance, singing along to hits like “E.T.,” “Teenage Dream,” and “California Gurls.”

Earlier this year, Perry attended Swift's Eras Tour show in Sydney, Australia. She shared a backstage photo with Swift and a video of herself singing along to “Bad Blood,” a track believed to reference their past differences.

In a 2020 interview with Howard Stern, Perry discussed their reconciled relationship, noting the media had exaggerated their feud and expressing gratitude for their public resolution.

At the VMAs, Swift led the nominations with 12 and won in several categories including video of the year and artist of the year. During her acceptance speech for best collaboration, she praised Post Malone, who responded with a light-hearted comment about Swift's kindness.

The 2024 MTV VMAs aired live from the UBS Arena in New York.
