Lucy Hale on sobriety: "Life feels so good now" after hitting rock bottom

Lucy Hale reflects on her journey to sobriety, calling it “the scariest choice of my life, but also the best gift”

Lucy Hale, known for her role in Pretty Little Liars, has opened up about her journey to sobriety. Now two-and-a-half years sober, Hale reflected on how she hit rock bottom at 32 before deciding to give up alcohol. She described her choice to get sober on January 2, 2022, as "the scariest choice of my life, but also the best gift."

Hale shared that her struggles with addiction began early, with alcohol initially providing a sense of relief before it turned dark. Her recovery involved confronting underlying issues beyond just stopping drinking. "Understanding why I was drinking and addressing those issues was crucial," she said.

Her acting career, particularly her work on Pretty Little Liars, played a significant role in her recovery. "Without my career and that creative outlet, I don’t know if I would’ve made it," Hale admitted. As she nears three years of sobriety, she acknowledges the ongoing challenges but feels that her life is now profoundly better.

This weekend, Hale will be honored with the Humanitarian Award at the 34th annual Friendly House luncheon, celebrating her dedication to addiction recovery and advocacy.
