Tate McRae’s latest single “It’s ok I’m ok,” released on September 12, 2024, showcases her talent for incorporating pop culture history into her work. The song, a collaboration with producers ILYA, Savan Kotecha, and Ryan Tedder, serves as a bold statement to her exes, making it clear she’s moved on. In the lyrics, McRae addresses her ex’s new partner, singing, “Take him, he’s yours,” and confidently affirms, “It’s okay, I’m okay.”

The music video, directed by Hannah Lux Davis, is a highly choreographed visual spectacle. It features McRae in dynamic scenes, including being arrested, escaping from a police car, and dancing atop a vehicle with backup dancers. Fans quickly noticed several references to iconic pop moments, drawing comparisons between McRae’s video and Britney Spears' visuals for "I Wanna Go" and "Womanizer," as well as the Pussycat Dolls' video for “When I Grow Up.” Some fans also noted similarities to a David LaChapelle photoshoot featuring Spears.

On X (formerly Twitter), fans expressed their excitement over the clear nods to Spears and the Pussycat Dolls, praising McRae for blending modern pop with nostalgic references.
