ISLAMABAD:

To commemorate the festival of Eid Miladul Nabi, the Punjab Arts Council (PAC) organised an Islamic calligraphy exhibition in collaboration with Mehr Qalam.

The chief guest of the opening ceremony of the exhibition was Pir Syed Ali Junaidul Haque Geelani. Director of Arts Council Sajjad Hussain, Deputy Director Muhammad Shakur, Assistant Director Muhammad Suleman and Mehr Qalam Chief Shabir Ahmed Zia were also in attendance.

There were 50 works of art by more than a dozen artists displayed at the exhibition. Special guest Pir Syed Ali Junaidul Haq Gilani addressed the participants of the exhibition and said that calligraphy is a purely Islamic art that begins with divine revelation. "The scribes of revelation are highly valued in Islam. Many artists have expressed their deep love for the religion of Islam through their works of art and use of beautiful colours. I pray that Allah Ta'ala will increase their passion even more."

Director Arts Council Sajjad Hussain said that calligraphy is a great cultural heritage of Muslims. "The bearer of the Islamic cultural heritage should publicise this beautiful and timeless art and the new generation should be especially exposed to the wonders of this art.

Shabbir Ahmad Zia said that our young artists are showing great talent in Islamic calligraphy. Many of the artists participating in the event will brighten the country's name in the world in the future. "Painting the words in the colours of aesthetic taste and passion with a pen on the canvas is called calligraphy," he explained.

Islamic calligraphy mostly features verses from the Qur'an, Hadith and carries spiritual messages. If borrowed from, then this art is connected with the ancient traditions of calligraphy.
