A gunfire was exchanged between guards of a private housing society and a police mobile van in the Sohal Chowk area of Rawalpindi's Chontra police station jurisdiction on Thursday.

According to police reports, the incident occurred when police were on routine patrol near the housing society. Ruman Imran, the nephew of a local Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), and his guards opened fire on the police vehicle. Imran also attacked Constable Danish Shakur with the butt of a rifle, injuring him, the police sources said, adding that the severely injured constable was transported to the Rural Health Centre in Chontra.

Following the incident, Rawalpindi Chief Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani took immediate notice and ordered the Saddar SP to furnish a report and initiate prompt legal action, including the arrest of the suspects.

Police officials confirmed that a case is being registered at Chontra police station, and teams are conducting raids to apprehend those involved.

A police spokesperson stated that the attack occurred while the police mobile was in the area. Rawalpindi CPO Hamdani emphasised that any violation of the law and resistance against police personnel would not be tolerated and the perpetrators would be swiftly brought to justice.
