Senior lawyer shot dead in Okara

A senior member of Dipalpur Bar Association, Advocate Malik Mehmood Phularwan, has been shot dead.

A complete strike was observed by the Okara and Dipalpur bar associations in protest against the murder of the lawyer.

The police arrested the prime suspect from Lahore.

According to local officials, Malik Mehmood Phularwan and one of his associates were attacked by their opponents in Okara near Mandi Ahmedabad early in the morning. Advocate Malik Mehmood was killed on the spot by the firing, while his colleague was injured.

A large number of lawyers gathered at a local hospital where the body and the injured were taken after the attack.

District police Officer Rashid Hidayat formed a team headed by SP Malik Dawood to arrest the attackers at the earliest.

The police carried out a search operation after blocking the entrance and exit routes of the entire district.

Later, the police traced the location of the prime suspect Murtaza alias Hero, who had fled to an area near Lahore.

The police team chased the suspect and arrested him.

Police officials said the the arrested suspect was being interrogated. A former president of the Dipalpur Bar Association, Majid Wattoo, hailed the arrest of the prime suspect in the murder within a few hours.

The associate of the deceased injured in the attack was stated to be in a stable condition in the hospital.

The police said they were conducting investigations into the incident.

Preliminary investigation by the police indicated that the murder was linked to a long-standing enmity.
