DISCOs losses remained at 16% in last fiscal

ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly was informed in Thursday that the Distribution Companies (DISCOs) sustained 16% electricity losses in 2023-24, amid 84,362 incidents of power theft across the country which saw 291 people arrested for stealing electricity and dismissal of 47 employees from DISCOs over abetment.

In a written replies during the Question Hour, the house was informed that DISCOs had registered 7,068 cases of electricity theft across the country.

During that period, the government reply stated that a cumulative sum of Rs885,381 million arrears were collected by DISCOs.

Details of the three-year losses of K Electric and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) were also presented in the National Assembly.

The house was informed that Hesco's electricity losses came down slightly to 27.1% in 2023-24 from 27.4% in 2021-22. Similarly, the losses of the K-Electric were 15.35% in 2021-22, and fractionally decreased 15.27% in 2022-23.
