Taylor Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris led to over 400,000 visitors to Vote.gov within 24 hours.

Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris for U.S. president resulted in a significant surge in traffic to the U.S. government’s Vote.gov site. On Tuesday, September 10, Swift shared an Instagram post supporting Harris, calling her a "steady-handed, gifted leader" and saying, "I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos." Swift’s post, shared with her 284 million Instagram followers, included a link to Vote.gov.

Within 24 hours, the site saw 405,999 visitors referred directly from Swift's post, according to a General Services Administration (GSA) spokesperson. The spike in traffic was more than ten times the usual daily average of 30,000 visitors. The traffic represented over half of the 726,523 total visitors to Vote.gov between September 10 and 11.

While it is unclear how many visitors registered to vote, the GSA reported 27,000 new registrations on September 11, along with more than 80,000 people verifying their registration status. At the MTV VMAs, where Swift won seven awards, she encouraged viewers, saying, "If you are 18, please register to vote. It’s an important election."

Swift also addressed concerns about misinformation, explaining that an AI-generated video falsely endorsing Donald Trump led her to clarify her actual political stance. Her Instagram post supporting Harris has since garnered over 10 million likes.
