Political crisis began under General Bajwa's watch: Azam Swati

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Azam Swati has accused former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa of initiating the country’s current political turmoil.

Speaking to media outside the High Court, Swati claimed that "what's happening in the country began with General Bajwa."

He also announced his plans to file a writ petition against Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, accusing him of looting the nation.

Azam Swati stated his passport has been blocked, preventing him from travelling to Afghanistan, but emphasised his determination to seek justice as a private citizen.

The PTI leader further criticised the judiciary, specifically targeting Supreme Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa's rulings, calling them "a low point in judicial history."

He urged all political parties to unite against what he described as judicial overreach.

Azam Swati expressed concerns about growing anti-army sentiment, emphasising that the respect of the military and the public are interconnected.

He also called for stronger ties with China and diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan and Iran to resolve regional issues.

Last year in October, a special court in Islamabad declared the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former federal minister, Azam Swati, a proclaimed offender in the controversial tweets case filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) last year.

Special Judge Central Islamabad Shahrukh Arjumand ordered that Azam Swati be arrested immediately and produced as soon as his whereabouts are ascertained.

Earlier in May, the same special court issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the PTI leader at the FIA’s request.

Then the warrants were issued after he failed to appear before the court for indictment in a case pertaining to his controversial tweets.

His lawyer told the court that he was not in contact with his client.

The lawyer opposed Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi’s request for the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants against him, arguing that the law for non-bailable arrest warrants “is very different”.

The lawyer for the FIA then apprised the court that Azam Swati did not appear before the court intentionally.

Later, the court issued the warrants against Azam Swati.
