Shannon Sharpe apologizes for accidental NSFW broadcast on Instagram live
Shannon Sharpe, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and ESPN personality, faced a personal and professional setback when he accidentally broadcast live audio of a sexual encounter to his 3.2 million Instagram followers.
During an emergency episode of "Nightcap," Sharpe owned up to the incident, confirming that his account was not hacked but was a result of his own actions.
“Obviously I am embarrassed. Someone that is extremely, extremely private and to have one of your most intimate details – the audio – heard for the entire world to hear, I’m embarrassed for a number of reasons,” Sharpe disclosed.
He emphasized his disappointment not in the act itself, which he noted many consenting adults engage in, but in the public exposure of such a private moment.
The mishap occurred when Sharpe, unfamiliar with Instagram Live's functionality, inadvertently activated the feature.
“I threw my phone on the bed, engaged in an activity,” he explained. “I did not know IG live. I’ve never turned IG live on so I don’t know how it works and all of a sudden my other phone started going off.”
It was his marketing partner, Jamie Fritz, who managed to inform him of the live stream, leading to its termination by another individual.
Despite the serious tone of his apology, Sharpe and guest Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson managed to inject some humor into the discussion.
Johnson, who has known Sharpe for years, recalled past instances of Sharpe’s technological slip-ups and expressed his shock and disappointment at the incident, considering Sharpe’s usual professionalism.
