HARIPUR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC)'s Abbottabad bench on Wednesday acquitted four accused nominated in the murder case of a PTI office-bearer and his fellow.

Suspects Farman Ullah, Sher Ghazi, Rehmat Ali and Sher Ali were acquitted in the murder case of PTI additional general secretary Malik Tahir Iqbal and Sardar Gul Nawaz.

Sources said that all the accused, including former MPA Faisal Zaman, had been acquitted by the higher court.

In September 2020, Malik Tahir Iqbal and Sardar Gul Nawaz were shot dead in the Kotera village in the Ghazi police station. The charges were brought against seven persons including PTI's former MPA Faisal Zaman Jahazanwala, who are still absconding. On the complaint of Naveed Iqbal, the brother of deceased Tahir Iqbal, a case was registered in the CTD police station of the Hazara Region under sections 302, 334, 427 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7-ATA.

The CTD held the former MPA Faisal and his associates Rahmatullah, Farmanullah and others responsible in this case. The case was heard in the Anti-Terrorism Court. Faisal secured interim bail and was later arrested upon cancellation of bail and sent to jail.

The prosecution presented 34 witnesses in the anti-terrorism court (ATC).
