Five killed in clash over marriage dispute

As many as five people were killed and two others injured in an armed clash between two groups of the Kosh community in the riverine border area of Punjab and Sindh.

According to officials, the Machhka police took two bodies into custody, while attackers from the Sindh area took away their two bodies and injured men.

There was a long-standing marriage dispute between the two groups from the Machka area of Rahim Yar Khan and Kashmore in Sindh.

The dispute had begun after the court marriage of the son of the deceased Sajawal Kosh and a close relative of the deceased Abdul Ghaffar Kosh, after which the couple had been hiding and the woman's family had threatened to kill them as Karo Kari.

According to local sources, dozens of armed men, including Abdul Ghaffar and Mashooq Kosh, residents of Hilpur in the Haji Shar area, attacked and killed Aziz Bangal Kosh, a close relative of Sajawal Kosh. Abdul Ghafar and Mashooq were killed in retaliatory firing by Sajawal Kosh who was also killed in the clash. Two men were injured in the firing.

Machhka Police Station SHO Jam Ijaz Lar, Hilpur SHO Amanullah Soomro and Haji Shar SHO Jameel Chandia reached the katcha area along with police contingents after the incident.

The Machhka police took the bodies of Sajawal and Bangal into custody. The bodies of two men were taken to the Haji Khan Shar area in Sindh.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif sought a report about then incident from IG Dr Usman Anwar. She stated that the murderers should be brought to justice.
