Australian hockey player Craig has been handed a suspension following an incident in Paris where he was detained by French police for allegedly attempting to purchase cocaine.

The suspension, announced by Hockey Australia, mandates that Craig serve at least half of the ban, which commenced on September 9.

The remaining six months of the suspension may be waived if he adheres to conduct requirements and completes mandatory training and education programs.

Despite the suspension, Craig remains eligible for selection to the 2025 Australian squad, with the final team set to be announced later this year.

The 29-year-old, who was released without charge, expressed deep remorse for his actions, apologizing to his family, friends, and teammates. Anna Meares, Chef de Mission of the Australian team in Paris, described Craig as "a good person who made a bad decision."

Craig, who made his international debut in 2014 and has earned over 100 caps for Australia, was a key player in the team that won silver at the Tokyo Olympics and bronze at the 2018 World Cup in India.
