Suspected robber killed in police encounter

A 55-year-old suspected robber was killed in a police encounter near the Samundari bypass early on Tuesday morning, while two of his accomplices were arrested along with weapons.

The body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.

The incident occurred around 5:30am near Chak 137 GB Bypass, within the jurisdiction of City Police Station Samundari.

Police signalled three men on a motorcycle to stop on suspicion. In response, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and opened fire on the police, taking cover behind acacia trees.

A heavy police contingent, including SHO City Samundari, Inspector Mohsin Muneer, arrived at the scene, and a gunfight ensued.

During the exchange of fire, 55-year-old Baba Ashfaq was killed.
