Peter Renaday, original voice of Master Splinter, dies at 89
Peter Renaday, the original voice of Master Splinter in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" animated series, has passed away at the age of 89.
According to TMZ, law enforcement conducted a welfare check at his Burbank home on Sunday and found him deceased. Authorities believe his death was due to natural causes and are not treating it as a medical examiner case.
Renaday’s niece, Mindy Zachary, told TMZ that while the cause of death remains unclear, his air conditioning had been malfunctioning during a recent heatwave in Los Angeles, with indoor temperatures reaching the 90s. The family does not feel further investigation is necessary.
Renaday had a prolific career spanning six decades, with roles in films, television, and video games. He is best known for voicing Master Splinter in the 1987 animated adaptation of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," a role he reprised in the "TMNT: Coming Out of Their Shells" concert.
In addition to his work as Splinter, Renaday voiced Abraham Lincoln in Disney’s "The Hall of Presidents" and characters Henry and Max in the "Country Bear Jamboree" attractions at Disney Parks. Renaday was married to Florence "Flo" Daniel from 1979 until her death in 2011.
