Carnival cruise ship brushes ice in Alaska, passenger declares 'It's a Titanic moment'
A Carnival cruise ship, the Carnival Spirit, recently encountered a dramatic moment when it grazed a piece of ice while navigating Alaska's Tracy Arm Fjord.
Despite the incident, which occurred last Thursday, the ship was found undamaged after a thorough assessment, according to Carnival Cruise Line's statement to The Post.
The cruise continued its seven-day itinerary smoothly and is scheduled to dock in Seattle, Washington, on Tuesday.
The encounter sparked a flurry of social media reactions from passengers aboard. Cassandra Goskie, one of the passengers, captured the moment on video, sharing it on TikTok with the caption, "If we die, it was damn well worth it. It’s a Titanic moment."
The video shows the ship making contact with the ice, accompanied by Goskie's commentary, "Oh, we are hitting it."
The incident drew considerable attention on board, with many passengers gathering at the side deck to witness the spectacle.
Additionally, another passenger shared images of the scene with a meteorologist who then reposted them on X (formerly Twitter).
These images depicted a tugboat trailing the Spirit as it navigated past the mostly submerged ice, highlighting the calm aftermath of the brush.
This minor scrape comes just days after another Carnival vessel, the Carnival Vista, faced an engine issue forcing it to reroute its Caribbean voyage, leading to passenger discontent and demands for refunds.
The back-to-back incidents have placed Carnival Cruise Line under scrutiny, though the undamaged condition of the Carnival Spirit post-incident suggests that safety protocols were effectively in place.
