Punjab Police capture absconder after six-year manhunt with help from Saudi Arabia

Ghulam Abbas was wanted by Gujranwala police since 2018 in connection to abduction, attempted murder case of a woman.

Punjab Police’s Special Operations Cell has arrested an absconder, Ghulam Abbas, who had been on the run for six years.

The absconder was apprehended in Saudi Arabia with the assistance of Saudi police and was later deported to Pakistan.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, Ghulam Abbas had been wanted by Gujranwala police since 2018 in connection with a case involving the abduction and attempted murder of a woman.

The Special Operations Cell issued a Red Notice through Interpol, leading to close cooperation with Saudi authorities, who successfully captured the absconder.

The spokesperson added that the Special Operations Cell took custody of the absconder at the airport. This arrest brings the total number of overseas absconders captured this year to 70.

Earlier on September 4, the suspected ringleader of a criminal gang, along with three of his associates, has been arrested in a joint intelligence-based operation by the Rangers and police.

The suspected gangster has been identified as Minhaj Ali Khan, aka Menu, while his associates are Muzamil Hashmi, alias Baban, Muhammad Talha, and Muhammad Ahsan, alias Jadoo.

Minhaj is said to have confessed to his involvement in over 60 incidents of street crime in different neighbourhoods of the metropolis.

Earlier this year, a gang of robbers, that used Facebook to procure weapons from Dera Adam Khel, has been arrested in Karachi.

Sindh police, along with paramilitary forces, acting on intelligence, conducted a joint operation in Jannat Gul Town of Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area, apprehending three suspects, Jan Agha, Umeed Gul alias Laghmani, and Abdul Rehman.

Agha, identified as the gang leader, operated the group and admitted to fleeing and hiding in Iran to evade arrest, only to return and resume criminal activities in Pakistan.
