Protests over prolonged power outages cause major traffic jams in Karachi

Widespread protests against ongoing electricity outages have caused traffic disruptions in several areas of Karachi.

Major thoroughfares including Mai Kolachi Road, roads leading to Teen and Do Talwar, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Korangi Road were affected.

Drivers of heavy vehicles abandoned their container-loaded trucks, causing a massive traffic jam.

Earlier on Monday, A large number of residents, including women and children, staged a sit-in protest on Hawkes Bay Road in front of Mauripur Main Bazar, blocking traffic to express their anger over the non-availability of electricity and water.

The 10-hour protest caused traffic chaos in the area, with long queues of vehicles forming, and citizens facing a challenging situation.

Demonstrators were earlier also reported in Punjab Colony area that blocked both roads, leading to gridlocks on major thoroughfares including Mai Kolachi Road, Boat Basin, Teen Talwar, and Do Talwar.

Long queues of vehicles were seen as commuters struggled to reach their destinations amidst the chaos.

Similar protests erupted in Railway Colony near II Chundrigar Road and Shaheen Complex, where residents voiced frustration over the persistent power cuts.

The city's traffic police have diverted vehicles from Khajoor Chowk towards Aiwan-e-Sadar Road, from MR Kayani Chowk towards SM Law College and Jang Press, and from Tower towards Shaheen Chowk to SM Law College via Jang Press, advising citizens to take alternative routes to avoid delays.
