Matt Lauer’s daughter Romy involved in Hamptons car accident

Romy Lauer, Matt Lauer’s daughter, was involved in Hamptons car accident

Romy Lauer, daughter of former Today show host Matt Lauer, was involved in a minor car accident near her Hamptons home on July 5, 2024. The 20-year-old drove her Jeep Wrangler into a fence, and police were able to trace the incident back to her after recovering part of her license plate at the scene. According to PEOPLE, Romy was not charged with a DUI but was issued a traffic ticket for leaving the scene of the accident. A source close to the family confirmed that the case will be settled without a trial.

Police responded to the accident after a 911 call at approximately 4 a.m. from a resident who reported a loud noise. Officers discovered that a fence and sign had been knocked down. The Suffolk County Police Department has not yet responded to requests for comment from PEOPLE.

Matt Lauer, who shares Romy and two sons, Thijs and Jack, with ex-wife Annette Roque, has maintained a close relationship with his children. In 2023, a source told PEOPLE that Lauer has “drastically changed his social circle” following his 2017 firing from Today after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Despite the public scrutiny, the insider added, “he’s close with his kids” and has focused on spending time with them.
