The opening week of the 2024 NFL season was filled with thrilling moments and controversial calls across three key matchups.

The season kicked off on Thursday night with the Chiefs facing the Ravens in a highly anticipated opener. Baltimore had a chance to tie the game late, reaching the Kansas City 10-yard line.

However, quarterback Lamar Jackson threw three consecutive incompletions, including a critical pass intended for tight end Isaiah Likely. Jackson believed Likely had scored, but replays showed Likely’s foot was out of bounds, confirming the incompletion and securing a 24-17 victory for the Chiefs.

On the first Sunday of the new season, the Cardinals took on the Bills. Arizona was trailing by six points with under two minutes remaining. Quarterback Kyler Murray made connections with tight end Trey McBride and receiver Greg Dortch, but a crucial incompletion on fourth-and-7 from the Buffalo 29-yard line proved costly. The Cardinals ultimately lost 34-28, with first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr. not targeted during the final drive and finishing with just one catch for 4 yards.

In the Sunday Night Football matchup on NBC, the Rams faced the Lions in a dramatic contest. Los Angeles initially thought they had scored a touchdown with a run by Jordan Whittington, but the play was called back due to an offensive holding penalty, pushing them back 15 yards. The Rams settled for a 26-yard field goal, narrowing Detroit's lead to 17-13 with 12:32 left in the fourth quarter. Despite their efforts, the Lions secured a 26-20 win in an overtime thriller.
