Lil Wayne’s longtime engineer, Fabian Marasciullo, has voiced his frustration following the announcement that Kendrick Lamar will headline the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The game, set to take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, has sparked disappointment among fans who believe the 41-year-old New Orleans native, Lil Wayne, should have been the one performing.

On social media, many expressed that Wayne’s legacy in his hometown should have secured him the slot for the iconic performance. Among those sharing their disappointment was Marasciullo, who has been working with the rapper for years, notably mixing tracks like "Go D.J." from Tha Carter in 2004.

“Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all, inspired,” Marasciullo wrote on his Instagram Story. He continued by expressing his determination to ensure that Wayne is no longer dependent on external decision-makers for such opportunities: “We will make the decisions.” His post also featured Wayne’s 2010 hit "Right Above It" from I Am Not a Human Being.

Wayne himself has expressed a strong desire to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show, telling Bleacher Reports’ Taylor Rooks last December that he wanted the opportunity “badly.” He noted that performing in his home city would be a significant achievement and a moment for tourists to remember.

Though the rapper has yet to receive any formal invitations for the performance, he remains hopeful, sharing earlier this year that he was “praying” for the chance.

NFL legend Deion Sanders also publicly supported Wayne, tweeting, “I fully expect @LilTunechi to be apart of the @nflsuperbowl 2025 in New Orleans.”
