Nearly 6,000 street crimes reported in Aug

As many as 5,951 incidents involving the theft of valuable items, including mobile phones, motorcycles, and vehicles, were reported in the month of August, according to the latest report of the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

According to the breakdown, 656 motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint, while 3,385 motorcycles were stolen from different neighbourhoods of the metropolis, reveals the report.

Similarly, 23 vehicles were forcibly taken from citizens, and 150 vehicles were stolen. As for mobile phone theft, 1,737 devices were stolen during robberies throughout the month.

The CPLC report also highlighted three cases of kidnapping for ransom and six cases of extortion in August.

The metropolitan city's crime rate continues to be a concern, with 48 murder cases also reported during this period.

During the last week, police killed seven suspects in 24 encounters and arrested 30, including 23 in injured condition, a police press release said on Sunday.
