Food inflation up despite govt claims
The Punjab government's tall claims of reduction in inflation were exposed after shoppers found the prices of all food items and essential items at much higher rates at the Sunday and Sasta bazaars and open market on Sunday.
In the open market, chicken meat was sold at Rs625 per kg, eggs at Rs305 per dozen, mutton at Rs2,300 per kg, beef at Rs1,400 per kg, milk at Rs220 per kg, yogurt at Rs240 per kg, gram pulse at Rs380 per kg, split gram at Rs600 per kg, white chickpea at Rs430 per kg, kidney beans at Rs400 per kg, potatoes at Rs120 per kg and onions at Rs180 per kg.
Meanwhile, peas was sold at Rs350 per kg, lemons at Rs600 per kg, tomato Rs150 per kg, garlic Rs590 per kg, ginger Rs630 per kg, chilli Rs200 per kg, cucumber at Rs120 per kg, okra Rs120 per kg, carrot Rs100 per kg, yam at Rs200 per kg, cabbage at Rs130 per kg and bitter gourd was sold at Rs200 per kg.
Similarly, apples were sold at Rs200 to Rs350 per kg, bananas at Rs150 per dozen, bergamot at Rs200 per dozen, mangoes at Rs300 to Rs400 per kg, plump at Rs450 per kg, apricots at Rs350 per kg, sweet musk melon at Rs120 per kg, grapes at Rs450 per kg, peaches at Rs350 per kg, while pears were sold at Rs180 per kg.
