X blocks users from searching the name of alleged Georgia school shooter Colt Gray
Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has blocked search results for "Colt Gray," the name of the alleged 14-year-old shooter in the recent Georgia school massacre. Gray was arrested after allegedly killing two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on September 4. Users attempting to search his name on X were met with an error message stating, "Something went wrong," prompting confusion and frustration. X's competitor, Threads, owned by Meta, still displayed search results for the shooter’s name.
Gray was reportedly armed with an assault rifle and opened fire in his classroom before being apprehended. According to authorities, he will be tried as an adult. Gray had been previously interviewed by police over online threats made more than a year ago, but there wasn’t enough evidence to take action at the time.
X’s decision to block searches of Gray’s name follows heightened scrutiny of how social media platforms handle sensitive content related to violent crimes. The Post reached out to Musk and X for comment, but no response has been received. Meanwhile, residents of Winder have gathered at Apalachee High School to mourn the victims, leaving flowers and holding a vigil. Classes were canceled for Thursday following the tragic event.
