Bonnie Wright reflects on the lasting impact of Harry Potter and her role as Ginny Weasley

Bonnie Wright, known for her portrayal of Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films, recently reflected on the enduring impact of the franchise. Speaking to PEOPLE, Wright acknowledged the overwhelming fandom that remains strong more than 20 years after the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. "It’s an absolutely incredible level of fandom," she shared, adding that even young fans who weren’t born when the films first premiered are still captivated by the series. "It still is a pinch-me moment every time I think about it."

Wright, now 33, began filming at the age of 9 and appeared in all eight films. She expressed gratitude for her decade-long role as Ginny, saying, "I just feel so grateful that I was able to play Ginny for those 10 years." Reflecting on her time on set, Wright explained that the environment created by the cast and crew helped normalize the intense experience, making it easier to handle the immense pressure.

The actress also praised her on-screen mother, Julie Walters, who played Molly Weasley, for making her feel welcome on her first day of filming. Wright recalled that Walters took her "under her wing" and made her feel at home. Despite the franchise's success, Wright admitted, "It never got normal."
