Paperless future? Airports in Pakistan to adopt ERP system

The shift to a paperless system at Pakistan Airports Authority is set to improve efficiency and reduce waste

The Pakistan Airports Authority (formerly Civil Aviation Authority) has decided to go paperless, transitioning all operations to an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system.

According to sources, the decision aims to eliminate the use of paper entirely within the organisation.

The Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority has instructed the IT department to expedite the implementation of the ERP system, which will soon be fully functional.

The move comes following directives from the Prime Minister, who has emphasised the importance of digitising government institutions to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

Once operational, the ERP system will streamline processes, enhance data management, and promote a more sustainable working environment.

The Pakistan Airports Authority is expected to be one of the first government bodies to fully adopt a paperless system, setting a precedent for other institutions to follow.

Last month, PM Shehbaz Sharif instructed the Ministry of Information Technology and other relevant departments to implement the e-office system in all government offices.

He emphasised the importance of transitioning to a paperless work environment within the next month and warned that any delays would not be tolerated.

“There should be no file work conducted without the e-office system starting next month,” the PM stated.

He highlighted that the e-office implementation is a top priority for increasing transparency and efficiency within the government.

All government officers are required to ensure that file work is conducted through the e-office system.

Following the PM's directive, the staff at the PM Office has already completed their e-office training, according to a notification.

PM Shehbaz described the e-office initiative as a significant step towards enhancing governance and promoting digitisation in the country.

He also directed that a progress report on the e-office implementation be presented within the next two weeks.
