China, Thailand discuss scientific, marine collaboration

100 experts from the marine depts of China, Thailand convene in Chiang Mai for three-day conference

More than 100 experts and representatives from the natural resources and marine departments of China and Thailand have convened in Chiang Mai for a three-day conference focusing on marine scientific and technological cooperation.

The event, which concluded on Thursday, included a steering committee meeting and a joint workshop. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to advancing international collaboration to address marine challenges.

During the meeting, project leaders from the China-Thailand Joint Laboratory for Climate and Marine Ecosystems shared updates on key cooperation projects, reviewed their applications and social impacts, and outlined the 2025 work plan.

Sumana Kajonwattanakul, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Institute at Thailand's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, expressed hopes for deepening and expanding bilateral marine cooperation to yield high-quality results.

Qiao Fangli, Deputy Director General of the First Institute of Oceanography at China's Ministry of Natural Resources, highlighted the meeting as an opportunity to exchange recent advances in marine science and technology.

He noted that this enduring partnership exemplifies the vision of a maritime community with a shared future.

The collaboration between China and Thailand continues to flourish, showcasing their commitment to advancing marine science and addressing global maritime issues together.
