KARACHI:

The body of a toddler who went missing after falling into the Lyari River near Sohrab Goth has been recovered.

As per details, two-year-old Hameedullah, son of Abdullah, slipped and fell into the river while playing on Wednesday night. Rescue 1122 staff and police teams rushed to the site after being informed and launched a search operation.

However, the search was hampered by strong current in the river and darkness.

On Thursday morning, they resumed their search operation and managed to fish out the toddler's body from the river. The body was shifted to a hospital for legal formalities and later handed over to the family.

According to a spokesperson from Rescue 1122, they received the report of the missing toddler at 6:42pm on Wednesday. By 7:13pm, divers from Sindh had arrived at the scene.

"The search continued through the night despite challenging conditions, including strong water currents and limited visibility," he claimed. "Rescue 1122 deployed three teams of divers at various locations. The search concluded at 9:40am on Thursday when the child's body was fished out."

The toddler's father criticised the absence of a protective barrier along the riverbank, which he believes resulted in the tragic death of his son.

He urged government officials to address this issue to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
